Shoe Size Conversion Chart: AU, US, UK & EU

The short answer: Australian men’s sizes are the same as UK sizes, and US men’s is one size up (AU 9 = US 10). Australian women’s sizes are the same as US sizes, and UK women’s is about two to two-and-a-half sizes down (AU 8 = UK 5.5–6). European sizes vary between brands, so use your foot length in centimetres when a brand publishes it.

There’s no single conversion every brand uses, and the European column shows it most. KEEN’s chart puts a men’s US 8 at EU 40.5; FILA’s Australian chart puts the same US 8 at EU 41. Both are the brands’ own published charts. The UK women’s column drifts too: KEEN and FILA both put women’s UK half a size lower than Dr. Martens does (below).

So treat any conversion chart — including this one — as a starting point, and check the chart on the brand’s own listing when it gives one. Foot length in centimetres is the most reliable number to compare.

1. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall.
2. Mark the tip of your longest toe.
3. Measure from the wall to the mark in centimetres.
4. Do both feet and use the longer measurement.

Match that number to the foot-length column, then read across to the size you need.

For unisex shoes, a women’s US size is roughly 1 to 2 sizes above the men’s, depending on the brand. On KEEN’s chart a men’s US 8 and a women’s US 9.5 cover the same 25.4 cm foot. Crocs labels its unisex clogs with a gap of two (M9 / W11), while Dr. Martens uses a gap of one (M10 / W11) — another reason to read the size on the listing.

Adult Crocs clogs are sized unisex, with both numbers in the name — the Classic Clog listing reads US M9W11, meaning men’s US 9 or women’s US 11. By our charts that’s an Australian men’s 8 or women’s 11. Crocs’ Australian size chart gives that size a foot length of 268–275 mm. Kids’ sizes carry a C (child) or J (junior) prefix.

Dr. Martens sizes on the UK scale, and the listings spell out the conversion: the 1460 boot in UK 9 / US M10 W11. Because Australian men’s sizes follow the UK scale, a UK 9 is an Australian men’s 9. For women, US W11 is an Australian women’s 11. Dr. Martens puts UK two sizes below US women’s, not the two-and-a-half on the chart above.

Many sneakers and sandals, including KEEN and Skechers, are listed in US sizes. Women: order the same number as your Australian size. Men: order one size up from your Australian size (AU 9 → US 10).

For men, yes — Australian men’s sizes follow the UK scale. For women, no: Australian women’s sizes match US sizes, and UK is about two to two-and-a-half sizes smaller.

A men’s US 10 is an Australian (and UK) men’s 9. A women’s US 10 is an Australian women’s 10.

On KEEN’s chart EU 42 is a men’s AU/UK 8 (US 9), or a women’s AU/US 11. Because EU sizing varies by brand, check the foot length for the specific shoe.
